Patty Rempel
Mental Health Therapist, MEd., BSW, RSW
Hello. Thank you for taking an interest in Embody Therapy Group. I’m Patty, one of the founders of this amazing therapy group. I have a passion for helping people fully embody their values and beliefs in order to be present and true to themselves every day, no matter what kind of day they are having. I help my clients improve their relationship with food, mind, and body. I encourage all of my clients to see it is possible to improve their physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual health without waiting until “everything is just right.” I utilize evidenced-based frameworks that have an emphasis on mindfulness, self-compassion, and a balance of ‘bottom up and top down’ processes, such as ACT, EMDR and DBT.
I have been working in the field of mental health for 30 years. I am a mental health counsellor, health educator and body liberation advocate. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work, a Master of Health Education, and post graduate certificates in Eating Disorders and Body Image Coaching.
Eating disorders come in all shapes, sizes, and genders and take many forms for the sufferer. After recovering from my own battle with eating disorders and realizing the many areas of my life that were negatively impacted it became my purpose to help other adults fully recover and reclaim their one and only rich and meaningful life. It is possible to recover and achieve peace with food and body neutrality. Learning to challenge the inner critic and increasing self-compassion is key. Developing and maintaining positive relationships and finding meaningful activities that fit with your values and give you a sense of purpose are also key. Becoming educated about the dangers of the diet industry, thin ideal and beauty ideal is also key. Realizing the ways, we have been victimized by this multi-billion dollar industry is vital. When we increase our awareness of the real danger of this messaging that blames and shames us about our weight, what we choose to eat, how we move our bodies and our appearance, anger is often experienced. This common experience can be part of what serves your path forward; the path toward knowing you deserve so much better. We all deserve so much better!
Let me help you explore how these key areas may be impacting you and how to find calm within yourself on your way to healing. Please feel free to call or email me for more information or to book an appointment.
